The South Coast Running Club's, See Jane Run, an All Women's Run/Walk , benefiting the Women's Safety and Resource Center, was a huge success. Over 50 women turned out on this beautiful Saturday morning to walk or run around Empire Lakes trails in John Topits Park. There was a 1-mile, non-competitive walk and a 5K run/walk. The overall winner was Caitlin Snuggerud of Lakeside with at time of 25:04. The winning masters runner( age 40 and over) , Becky Edmonds, of North Bend, clocked in a time of 27:13. A phenomenal time after running Portland Marathon just one week before!

The first serious front of the rainy season arrived on the South Coast the day before our 13th annual all-women event. It rained most of Friday night and early Saturday morning, but the weather gods smiled on Carolyn Thompson and her hardy crew of volunteers. Not only were we able to keep all the paper dry, but the 27 equally hardy runners and walkers did not get soaked. A couple of them did manage to get lost on the Empire Lakes trails in spite of Blake Thompson's excellent job of marking the course.
In the 5 km race, the SCRC women were led by Candace Hinzmann, followed closely by Barbara Osbon. Becky Edmonds was third in spite of running an extra quarter mile or so.
Carolyn's crew included her daughter Jessica, Jim Clarke, Pete Dawson, Barbara Reese, Frank Searfus and Kent Sharman. Thanks to all for helping out.
The proceeds from the event, which amounted to $472, were donated to the Women's Safety and Rescue Center.
